Shield  --  Any device used to reduce the effects of spurious electrical or magnetic fields on a signal path or system. SHIELDED CABLE -Any cable in which the conductors are protected by a surrounding braided or foil shielding. SHOCK MOUNT -A suspension system which mechanically isolates a microphone from its stand or boom, thus protecting the microphone against mechanical vibrations.
