Disneyland Fantasy Land promo A Mattel Musical Map (78rpm)

Engage!     Warp!

Unusual recording, and a nightmare to restore: a thin film of plastic glued to a paper map.  The glue dots were 1/4 inch lower than the rest of the surface.  Bad.  The plastic film used to be flat about 40 years ago, today it is wavy.  Bad.  The first attempts at playback resulted in the tonearm being almost placed into orbit.  Bad.    Many hours (and many attempts) later, after guiding the tonearm by hand and applying multiple filters, here is the result.

Our visitor David Calvillo writes:
I just bid and won the complete set of Mattel's Disneyland Musical Map which includes Into to Disneyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. I understand it's a rare item. I just received the package yesterday, and thought to research the item further on the web, and ran into your site. After looking at the version of Disneyland that was rendered on the "map", I have to say that it was drawn before the park actually opened (1955), because there are elements there that never existed in the park. I'm guessing that it's a concept drawing. It's quite unusual as I've never seen anything like it before.   (Thanks, David, for sharing with us this info!)

An anonymous visitor writes:
This was a 5 paper-78rpm disc promo map that was sold during Disneyland's opening year, 1956. It was made by Mattel and included an Introduction disc and discs for Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Frontierland and Adventureland.    (Thanks for sharing this info with our visitors!)
