Wire Recordings to CD Transfer  A Wire Recording is a recording made on a very thin metal wire.  Wire recorders were common during WWII and in the 1950's.  BBC (and other radio stations) had banks of such recorders (the size of a large refrigerator) for broadcasting "messages" to the French underground and for short wave transmissions.  Wire recorders were replaced by tape recorders.  Although wire recordings are not "High Fidelity" (the frequency range is rather narrow), it is amazing how well they preserve the original sound.

* We will calculate the final price when your order is completed, based on the actual number of wires that fit on one CD.  Wires that do not fit on CD #1 will be put on CD #2, and CD #2 will be charged at the above rates.  
Useful Information       Wire Recordings Transfers to CD

Transfer Wire Recordings to CD  We accept wires compatible with the "Webster Chicago" system (approx. 2.25 inch hub diameter and 2.75 inch outside diameter).  If the spool has these dimensions, the wire is compatible regardless of the brand.
Transfer Wire Recordings to CD  Wire recordings require specialized equipment for playback.  They are more expensive to record.
Transfer Wire Recordings to CD  We ask our customers not to send in wire recordings that are damaged.  Occasionally we receive recordings in bad shape.  If a wire breaks excessively or has other playback problems we will charge a Recording Fee of $14.25 (or multiples of $14.25, depending of the problem) per wire reel. 
Transfer Wire Recordings to CD  Some wire recordings may require more restoration work than the time allotted by the basic rate.   We will be happy to work on restoring these recordings at our standard studio rate of $115 per hour.
Transfers Wire Recordings to CD  We ask our customers to use common sense in what to expect for final quality: if a wire is in horrible condition, the CD will NOT sound perfect.  It will sound better than the original wire, but better than "horrible" is "very bad"!

Transfers Wire Recordings to CD  Do not ask us to make editorial decisions, i.e. listen to the contents of the wire and only put on CD selections that meet certain criteria.  We are a transfer/conversion service and do not have the possibility to make editorial decisions. 
Transfers Wire Recordings to CD  Do not send in wires that are tangled up or wires that do not have 1 (one) clear beginning.
Transfers Wire Recordings to CD  Do not send in wires that are not properly spooled.  A wire needs to be properly spooled (by the machine) in order to be playable.  If a wire was spooled by hand, it will not be playable.

At this time we are booked with work commitments until October 2008.  New orders placed on this Web site will be processed in the order received, beginning early October 2008.   Our Receiving Department will accept and date-stamp packages received, for processing in order in which they were received.  The packages WILL NOT be entered into our Order Tracking System until early October 2008 (please do not panic if you do not see your order in the Order Tracking System).   Email inquiries received after July 7 will be answered October 2008.  Phone support will resume at the same time.
